GIVING BACK

Being able to give something back is incredibly important to us all at Alexander Thurlow. There are so many wonderful and deserving charities that choosing who to support can become a real challenge. We therefore wanted to choose to support a charity that has a special meaning to us personally.

John Gifford Walter Saunders, the father of our Sales Director (Clive Saunders) was only 18 when he fought in the RAF for Great Britain in World War II. He was a ‘Tail End Charlie’ the rear gunner in a Lancaster bomber. Sadly most Tail End Charlie’s didn’t survive the war, but miraculously John Saunders did after safely parachuting out of his shot down Lancaster and two years as a prisoner of war.

With the changing of generations, close connections to people who fought in World War II are being lost. We would like to remember those who gave their lives during all conflicts, or those whose lives have been affected by war.

This is as current today as it was then.

Our chosen charities are The Royal British Legion (RBL) and Household Cavalry Foundation (HCF). The Red Poppy flower is synonymous with peace and remembering victims affected by war. Whilst the Purple Poppy is worn to give thanks and remember animals affected by War.

For every Red Poppy item sold a percentage of our profit for that style is given to RBL and for every Purple Poppy sold, a percentage of our profit for that syle is given to the HCF.
